At The Home Depot, giving back is one of our core values. As a husband & father who cares deeply for developing meaningful connections within my community, I had the opportunity to photograph a Team Depot service event organized by my amazing leader, Lisa. Together with a team of passionate Home Depot volunteer associates, co-workers & managers, they took on a challenge to completely renovate a local veteran couple’s home in Metro Detroit. I'm proud to be part of a team so focused on making a positive impact. It inspires me to find more ways to pay it forward. The Home Depot's spirit of compassion and care truly resonates with my own commitment to being there for my neighbors.

I find that I gain more perspective on life and happiness when I'm giving my time to help others in need. Just knowing that I used my skills to make a difference for someone feels so much better than having any one more 'thing' for myself. We all go through hard times, and if I can help ease someone's burden, that's where I find the most meaning. - That's where the best parts of life happen.

Arriving at the Veterans Home

When I arrived at the veteran couple's house that Thursday morning, the home improvement magic was already underway...

The volunteers were wearing their iconic orange and white dedicated Home Depot shirts and were hard at work - painting walls, trim, and cabinets in fresh new hues, retiling floors, and taking down worn cabinets to make way for updated fixtures. Oh, and the tape...lots & lots of tape. The atmosphere buzzed with the kind of upbeat, friendly teamwork that makes me so proud to be a Home Depot associate. Here is a glimpse into bit of that process, when skills and dedication meets community.

The Spirit Of Service

As a developing photographer & entrepreneur, I strive to memorialize the immense skillset that each of us has and how, when we come together, we tend to create some of the most extraordinarily beautiful things. Close-ups honed in on purposeful brush strokes, newly gleaming floors, and focused expressions as the volunteers collaborated to renew this home. Though I didn't meet the veteran couple, I could only imagine their joy and gratitude upon returning home to a freshly revitalized space.

The Joy of Giving Back

I’m continually inspired by associates like Lisa who dedicate their time and heart to make a difference. As a member of the Home Depot family, I’m honored to document and share these stories that highlight the spirit of caring that brings us all together.

When we take care of each other, that’s community at its best. I’m proud of the work we did and am already looking forward to the next project!
